Have you forgiven yourself?
“Have you forgiven yourself for the things that you couldn’t change?” I have asked this question a lot lately.
The background for me asking this, is that too many people talk about forgiveness like it is something you have to do to others and not yourself.
I have seen people on TV saying that they forgive others, and it seems to me that people think they have to forgive others in order for them to move on. It might be right to a certain extent, but to me forgiveness is something much more profound.
In order for you to forgive others you also have to forgive yourself. If you have guilt, shame or anger towards yourself it creates a block in your relationship with yourself and others, so forgiveness starts with yourself.
Inside you, in your soul, is a core that wants you to forgive yourself for all the things you didn’t do, didn’t say and didn’t stop. In your heart you have to know that you did all that you could, even though there are things you want to be different.
You have to forgive yourself for not knowing or acting a certain way, which resulted in you acting differently.
So how do you do that? It takes time, and you have to be patient with yourself. I always tell people it starts by breathing and feeling the what’s in your heart. You need to feel all the feelings inside of you and trust that the universe will help you in your process to forgive.
I have made a poster that can help you in reminding yourself of just that.
