Part Seven – Where a new ability is not a gift.
Lisa woke up the following day and felt something different in her system. She could not put her finger on it. Something was different, and she knew this usually meant some new ability that took some days to get used to.
She did not want to learn new spiritual gifts while trying to work at a café.
The last time she had gotten a new gift, it was her healing abilities that went crazy. All of a sudden, she was able to heal others. She had not used it at all, but it was hard not to. Her hands became warm whenever someone who needed healing was in the vicinity.
She had to shower and get dressed before leaving for the café. Only two dead people were in her apartment this time, and she ignored them. She knew they did not shower with her so she could shower in peace.
She showered, got dressed, and went outside to go to work. That was when she saw. Her new ability was crazy, she was stunned. This is insane and crazy; she thought as she stood there looking at people. Whenever she looked at someone, she could see where they were in pain and what was wrong with them. Almost like a sign was over their heads. One had a problem with her stomach, another a crooked pelvis, and the third had a headache.
She started to laugh. This was too much to take in.
“What the hell is this?” She said out loud.
“You really are amping up the crazy,” she said and started walking. Whenever she passed anyone, she giggled because it was such a crazy thing to be able to see people’s medical problems.
“God, you got me this time, but I am not swayed. I am going to be normal.”
After ten minutes, she reached the café, and she giggled the entire way. This was such fun. She was almost sad to be forced to hide it at work, but she had to.
Emily was already there when she came in, and the first thing she saw was Emily’s shoulder.
“Oh, are you in pain,” she said before she could stop herself.
Emily looked at her funny and said, “why do you ask?”
“I just thought your shoulder might hurt you.” Lisa regretted saying anything repeatedly.
“Yes, how do you know?” Emily looked like she was trying to figure out how she knew.
“I just felt it,” she tried to sound casual.
Emily said it was an old skiing injury and that it acted up now and then. I will try to eat some pills and ignore them.
“Can I touch your shoulder?” Lisa asked.
“Yes,” Emily said, looking even more puzzled.
As Lisa put her burning hot hands on the shoulder, the energy started flowing.
After 2 minutes of standing like that, Lisa said
“It should be done now. Have you washed all the tables?”
“I haven’t yet,” Emily said and turned her arm back and forward several times before looking at Lisa like she had seen a ghost. Lisa had been in those situations several times, but this time she was angry with herself for not stopping. On the other hand, Emily had been in pain.
“How did you do that?” Emily wanted to know.
“I just learned a little healing at a course. That’s all,” Lisa Lied.
“Oh, ok, well, that was amazing. I have been in pain for years, and it is gone now.”
“Good. Are you going to get going with cakes and sandwich prep?”
Emily looked at Lisa funny and said she was getting to it.
The kitchen out back was small but just big enough to bake a cake. Emily was starting there.
Lisa started cleaning tables, taking down chairs, and ensuring everything was filled to the best of her memory. There was a lot to remember, but Theo had made a list so they could go through it each morning. That made it much more manageable.
After an hour and a half, an hour before opening, Theo came. Emily made four different cakes, and Lisa filled coffee in containers when he came in.
She had one look at him and saw that his back had a slight bend to it. She said nothing this time, even though she knew she could help him. This is going to be a hard day if this keeps going. Two dead people had already lined up in the back, so she was all too aware of the challenges ahead.
“Good morning,” Theo said and walked to the kitchen.
“Good morning,” said Lisa and went on her way.
After five minutes, Theo appeared and looked at Lisa funny.
“Did you take away the pain in Emily’s shoulder?” he asked as the first thing.
“I think I did, yes,” said Lisa, filling sugar in small containers.
“How?” he tilted his head slightly to the side and stared at her.
“I just put my hands on her and let some energy move around,” she said without looking. It was hard not to say anything.
“Can you take away the pain in my knee?” He looked like he was challenging her.
“I can try,” knowing his knee did not hurt. Maybe he is just trying to trick me, Lisa thought.
She put her hands on his knee and channeled the energy towards his back. It went to the lower back and healed the bend he had there. After three minutes, she lifted her hands and said she had to get on with the sugar.
He moved around, bending over and trying to jump.
“What the actual heavens are you?” Theo said, looking almost scared.
“You took away my pain,” his voice was shaking.
“Well, it was not really in your knee but your back,” she said and could have kicked herself. Why did she have to say things directly and not just pack them away? Learn how to shut up, she scolded herself.
Theo said thank you and left for the kitchen again.
Lisa was so angry with herself. Why did she always end up telling others what and how she was? Could she not just be normal and say nothing? Just shut up. She had a whole hate speech going on in her mind when Theo and Emily came out again.
“Are you done with cakes?” Lisa smiled her best smile.
“We are sitting down for a 5-minute talk like every day,” Theo said.
None of them said anything about the healing, so that was good. A dead man in the back said
“I am Theo’s boyfriend, but I passed on. I want to say I love him.” Lisa ignored it.
They all sat by a table in the back of the room. They had been sitting there the day before too. That had been different because she had to learn so much new then.
Me and my big mouth and healing hands, she scolded herself as she went to sit. How can I never just shut up and not keep on healing? She was not happy about her mindset, and it had to change.
Theo looked at her first, and color flushed to Lisa’s face. She felt it turn red and hot as fast as possible.
“So what is this with you and healing?” he said directly, not putting anything in the dark.
“It is nothing really, just something I can do when I want to,” Lisa tried to sound as if it was nothing at all. Then he would leave her alone, she hoped.
“Nothing?” Theo giggled at first, but then it turned into a laugh.
“Nothing?” He repeated.
“You have the ability to take away the pain I have had for years, and you say it is nothing. It is a huge deal for me, just so you know.”
Lisa said nothing because what was she supposed to say? How could she ever tell them about her dead people talks?
Emily smiled and said
“I have lived with this intense pain for years, and it has been horrible even to try to work at times, and here you come and take it away in 5 minutes. It is a huge thing.”
Lisa did not know how to tell them anything but minimized her healing so they wouldn’t ask about what she could do anymore.
“So there is that,” Lisa said, “and we open in a bit. Is there anything you want me to know or do before the doors open? Please don’t tell anyone about the healing. It is just a hobby. I am sure others are better at it than me,” she said, knowing there were only a few.
Theo looked at her,
“Not telling anyone, are you sure? It will be hard to explain to people how I am now pain-free. Everyone knows I have been struggling with pain for years, and I opened this café so I would have a job that could compensate for that.”
“Please don’t tell anyone,” Lisa pleaded, trying to hold herself together.
“I am trying not to be known for healing but for me.” Her words would not come out right.
“Ok,” they both agreed after a moment of thought.
“We are going to do great today,” Emily said, “especially since I have no pain in my shoulder.”
Lisa smiled,
“Well, it might come back after a while, but it seems to be holding right now.”
“We need to have the cakes done and new ones in the oven,” Emily smiled,
“And I am on it. Also, can you check the chair for felt pads on the legs?”
“Sure can,” Lisa said, relieved they promised not to tell anyone.
